Galapagos Sea Lion
The Galapagos sea lion is endemic to the Galapagos Islands, although some sea lions live in Isla de La Plata, an island off the coast of mainland Ecuador. They are found at all of the major islands in the Galapagos, and swim along the coastline. However, the Galapagos sea lion can still walk on land due to their rotating hip bone. Sea lions mainly eat sardines and other types of fish found in the waters of the Galapagos. They can stay underwater for up to 10 minutes and can dive to depths of 600 meters. Like Galapagos penguins, climate change threatens Galapagos sea lions because it can make the water warmer, which could cause a collapse of the fragile Galapagos ecosystem. Galapagos sea lions are very special to the environment of the Galapagos Islands.
